Yes! There is another EdCamp Chicago in the works - mark your calendars for Saturday, October 26th, to come to the O'Hare area for your next EdCamp! We have the venue, a list of sponsors to contact, and a great suburban crew working on the details. All you need to do is show up and learn from other passionate teachers around the area.
Edcamp Chicago is really, honestly, truly almost here now! We have one more Edcamp tip for you and then we would like to introduce another organizer, Michelle Sheppard.
Need help? Look for our organizers and student volunteers wearing EdCamp Chicago shirts. Erin and Stephanie are modeling the organizer t-shirts. Student volunteers will be wearing grey shirts with the Edcamp Chicago logo. Make sure to say hi, introduce yourself, and let us know if we can help you! We’ll be happy to answer your questions and guide you on your way. Hopefully you have seen the session ideas doc and are thinking of a session of your own. We encourage you to add your session the board on Saturday morning and to share and learn with others. At the session board, you will see Michelle Sheppard, ready and willing to help get your sessions scheduled!
Michelle Guilbeau-Sheppard is a1st grade teacher at Hillcrest Elementary in Elgin U-46. She has taught art, kindergarten, first, second and sixth grade and also has been a school interventionist, district literacy coach, assistant principal and summer school principal.
She has also taught ESL at Elgin Community College as an adjunct faculty member and one of her favorite things I do in life is write. Being a freelance writer is one of her greatest pleasures!
When it comes to her excitement for Edcamp, Michelle explained that she loves sharing and learning from others so anything related to education, learning etc. is a dream come true! She loves technology, but struggles with it often so anything she can learn about technology and its relation to education is something she is so excited about. She is more than willing to share her knowledge of technology although she believes she has a lot more to learn than give in that area!
If you want to learn more about Michelle, you can find her here:

When we asked her about her favorite device, she told us, "I could not live without my iPhone, it is my connection to everyone and everything in my life. If I lost my iPhone, I would be in serious trouble!"
We asked Michelle about what inspired her to become a teacher and she said, "My second grade teacher, Mrs. Frandsen inspired me because I can still remember how well she treated me and I felt like she really loved me and wanted the best for me. One of my favorite sayings is: 'Children may forget what you say, but they will never forget how you make them feel.' I knew I wanted to be a teacher when Mrs. Frandsen came into my life."
It's been fun reading about what Starbucks drinks we envision ourselves as! Here's what Michelle had to say: "Skinny Vanilla latte. I think it would be great to be skinny and Vanilla is just so sweet, latte is so frothy.....skinny, sweet and frothy...not a better combo!"
A big thanks to Michelle and the other Edcamp organizers to helping make Edcamp Chicago possible this time around! We are ready to let the learning begin on Saturday!
